Building Spotlight Series: Humboldt Lofts
HUMBOLDT LOFTS
Humboldt Lofts is a converted residential building with a lot of style points. Once part of the Washburn-Crosby Flour Milling complex, Humboldt Lofts house some of the most unique, modern properties in the Mill District.
Formerly the Humboldt Mill, the building was an integral part of the fabric of the milling industry in Minneapolis amongst the more well-known Washburn and Pillsbury A Mills. The Humboldt Mill was the first to be rebuilt after the explosion and was dubbed a model of the “most advanced system of New Process Milling” and architectural skill.
In 1899, the mill was purchased by the Washburn-Crosby Mill and was renamed the “E” Mill.
Restored in 2003, and located just next to the iconic Guthrie Theater, the building is now home to 36 loft-style units of spectacular appeal. The award winning architecture by Julie Snow Architects was a significant endeavor combining historic restoration with nine story new construction annex.
The location may be the most desirable feature of the building, or it may be the expansive shared roof-deck with jaw dropping views of the city. Any way you look at it, it is clear that Humboldt Lofts is a shining gem of the Mill District neighborhood.
Whether you want to walk past and enjoy the views of the Guthrie Theater, grab a bite at Farmer's Kitchen + Bar or pop down to the Stone Arch Bridge and take a stroll, one could argue the location of Humboldt Lofts can’t be beat for enjoying the best our city has to offer, all within walking distance. Did we mention the treasured Mill City Farmers Market is right outside the front door May-Oct?
Within the building itself, the contemporary feel surrounds you. The soothing atmosphere created from fine works of art and the architecture as a whole envelops a sense of calm. The soaring ceilings and unique design of each unit are sublimely special to Humboldt Lofts.
